Since my mum’s passing in July last year, I’ve made it a priority to visit my dad as often as possible in my hometown of Cagliari ❤️. So, I am here now, and while spending this afternoon relaxing in the sun at our local beach, I thought about the importance of taking time off to recharge and spend time with our loved ones.
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s too easy to get caught up in the constant demands of everyday life. We may feel we must constantly be working, producing, and achieving in order to be successful, and it’s easy to forget the importance of taking time to recharge with the people we love. Still, this simple act can have profound effects on our wellbeing and, not surprisingly, on our work performance as well.
I’ve been reading a lot around this and the shared consensus is that taking time to recharge has a number of benefits for our physical and mental health. It can help reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and boost our overall mood and wellbeing. Also, spending time with loved ones can provide us with a sense of connection and support, which is key to our emotional health.
When we feel recharged and supported, we are better able to perform to the best of our abilities. We are more creative, more productive, and more engaged in our work. We are also more likely to be positive and supportive of our colleagues.
Therefore, as employers, it’s important that we do our best to create a culture that encourages employees to take time to recharge and relax, and ensure that they do not feel guilty for doing it. This means offering generous holidays and paid time off, but most of all being supportive when employees need to take time off for personal or family reasons.
Giving our employees the right to recharge could:
- Reduce turnover: Employees who feel appreciated and supported are more likely to stay
- Increase productivity: Employees who are well-rested and recharged are more productive than those who are overworked and stressed.
- Improve employee morale: Employees who have a good work-life balance are more likely to be happy and satisfied with their job.
A study by the Society for Human Resource Management (1) found that 89% of employees believe that taking time off is important for their overall well-being, while a study by the Harvard Business Review (2) found that companies with generous holiday policies have lower turnover rates and higher employee satisfaction.
So, if we want to improve our company’s culture and performance, we should consider giving our employees the right to recharge. By encouraging them to take time to relax and spend time with loved ones, we are investing in their physical and mental health, and in the long-term success of our business.
This is definitely the culture at Kharalis. How about YOUR company?
